GC32による新生エクストリーム・セーリングシリーズ、オマーンで開催

3月16〜19日、中東オマーンで「エクストリーム・セーリングシリーズ・アクト1」が開催されました。2016年からあたらしくGC32が採用され、フォイリングカタマランによる初戦となります。また、参加8チームによるフォイリングレースは、（編集長の記憶では）はじめての試みであり、どんなフリートレースになるのか興味深い大会になりました。（BHM編集部）

　スタート方式はアメリカズカップと同じくリーチングスタート。後半戦の風があがり波も立つような場面では、アップウインドで約15ノット、ダウンウインドでは25ノット弱の迫力あるレース（全19レース）がおこなわれました。

　今年のエクストリーム・セーリングシリーズには〈アリンギ〉（SUI）、〈レッドブル・セーリングチーム〉（AUT）、〈SAP〉（DEN）、〈オマーン〉（今年はオマーンエア）といった前年度から継続して活躍しているチームに加えて、〈ランドローバーBRAアカデミー〉という、レッドブル・ユースアメリカズカップを目標とした英国ヤングチームが出場している点にも注目です。

　アクト1の優勝は、モーガン・ラーソン率いる〈オマーンエア〉が優勝しました。次回アクト2は、４月後半に中国青島で開催されます。
