マイアミからポルトガル・リスボンまで3590マイルを走る大西洋横断レグは、ファンの想像を上まわる激しい接近戦が繰り広げられました。中盤までは大西洋を舞台にフリートレースさながらのタッキングマッチ。その間、北寄りの風をつかんだアブダビが抜け出し、2位のグルーパーマにわずか6分差で逃げ切りという展開となりました。総合成績は、この結果により、テレフォニカを抜いてグルーパーマが首位に。しかし、オフショアレグは残り2レグ残っているので、優勝の行方はまだまだ分かりません。また、第1レグでマストを折ってリタイアしたプーマが、総合3位にまで上がってきています。（BHM編集部）
